To simplify the checkout process and elevate the customer experience, Rokoko resolved to uncover a solution for its current product bundle implementation. To this end, they set their sights on Shopify App Store in search of a productive Shopify product bundles app.
After thoroughly assessing the many options, it was apparent that most of these Shopify product bundles apps employed a similar approach to Rokoko's current setup — relying on API calls to generate draft orders. This strategy may be suitable for some businesses but did not fulfil client's standards due to its limited customization possibilities and lengthy checkout time.
Undeterred by this obstacle, Rokoko was determined to find a superior solution to help them achieve their objectives of worldwide expansion and experimenting with different bundle options.
Implementing Custom Volume and Bundle Discounts with Shopify Scripts
After thoroughly considering our range of alternatives, we concluded that Shopify Scripts was the optimal solution to tackle Rokoko's issues. The pre-existing product bundling logic constructed as a custom app had restrictions regarding customization and efficiency; luckily, with Shopify Scripts' help, these obstacles are no longer an issue.
Shopify Scripts provide the benefit of being natively compatible with a headless online store, and its speed is notably superior to generating draft orders through API calls. Indeed, this new method has dramatically increased the processing performance average order value for the client.
With the custom Shopify script, we rebuilt the automatic discount logic to meet Rokoko's needs better. The new script allowed for creating a unique percentage discount that could be applied to custom bundle deals.
The discounts were triggered by specific bundle products' tags, which gave Rokoko greater flexibility and control over the discounts offered to their customers. This solution improved the user experience for their customers and helped the client boost sales and expand globally with different stores and prices.
Thanks to the new custom script, testing different variant-based bundles was now possible.
Unlocking Global Expansion with Shopify Bundles

To ensure a seamless customer experience, we replicated the store and implemented geolocation detection. This way, European Union shoppers are directed to the EU version of the site while all other countries visit our global edition. Both stores feature identical products and content!
Whether customers reside in the EU, USA, or Australia, they will experience uniformity with a shared website and domain from our end. Moreover, we have optimized the checkout flow to entice customers with an even more desirable shopping experience for clients from European Union nations and other Regions Of the World (ROW). Additionally, we worked hard to streamline currency exchange rate updates through automation so that price fluctuations for bundled products can be avoided without fail!
VAT Exemption Validation at Checkout
The process differs if they are within the EU or beyond when providing customer checkout flow. As per tax regulations, Shopify merchants based in European Union countries must be VAT-registered when their yearly revenue surpasses a certain amount. This necessitates charging Value Added Tax from some clients and not others - two essential factors decide this: the customer's location and whether you are selling B2C or B2B products/services.
To solve this dilemma, the Sufio app was installed, which allowed our client to acquire VAT numbers from European business customers based on their geographical area and set them as tax-exempt in Shopify if necessary. Sufio also identifies special product tax overrides while generating invoices containing all details required to maintain compliance with applicable invoicing legislation. In addition, these invoices are valid documentation confirming that products were shipped within another EU Member Country.
The Implementation of Shopify Scripts to Create Product Bundles Brings Success
Rokoko experienced a big win by incorporating bundle builder and volume discounts logic using Shopify Scripts. As a result, the solution is quicker and more effective than their previous API-based draft order creation process, proving to be an overall success.
Utilizing this technology, customers benefited from an improved user experience. The client experimented with different product kits and employed upsells and cross-sells more efficiently. This versatile capability for selling products individually or creating a bundle opened the door for incredible discounts that allowed them to boost revenue, increase average order value and target new customers in distant countries.
